Breakfast Suggestions

by M
(Canada)

Do you have a good breakfast suggestion to provide high energy throughout the day and some good juicing ideas?

Caroline's Answer:

The traditional breakfast food for giving you energy for many hours is porridge. Oats are particularly good for giving many hours of energy. Other whole grains such as brown rice, quinoa and millet are good too. The complex carbohydrates are digested slowly, giving a steady supply of energy over a long time – like a big log burning all day on the fire. You can also have any of these grains as flakes in meusli.

Some people find this sort of carbohydrate food too much first thing. I personally prefer to have just fruit in the mornings. This is easily digested so it gives quick energy without being ‘heavy’ in the stomach.

I often have fresh vegetable juice or a green smoothie – or both combined – in the morning. This gives a real boost of energy because of all the nutrients. I find it easily keeps me going till lunch time.

My favorite juice combination is carrot and celery with a little beetroot and a chunk of fresh root ginger. The ginger gives it a nice zing, and adds some heat on a cold day.
