Three Steps To High Blood Pressure Remedy
There are three parts to a natural high blood pressure remedy –
· Change your diet
· Increase exercise
· Lifestyle changes
It might seem a lot of bother to do all this, but it could save your life – high blood pressure can lead to stroke or heart attack.
The western diet is high in meat, fat, sugar and starchy foods and low in fresh fruit and vegetables with all their nutrients and enzymes. Add to that stressful jobs and the fast pace of modern life and its not surprising that so many people have high blood pressure.
Doctors will prescribe drugs to artificially lower blood pressure, but they also tell you to change your diet and lifestyle and to exercise more. These are the keys to a high blood pressure remedy – the drugs are just an emergency treatment to keep you alive while you improve your health. They should not be seen as a long-term solution.
The big problem is safely coming off the medication. DO NOT suddenly stop taking your prescribed drugs. What my husband did when he had a minor heart attack many years ago was to gradually cut down on the drugs as he replaced them with nutritional supplements, better food and more exercise. He also reduced his stress levels considerably (he’d had three stressful jobs at once – he quit all of them!)
Following these three steps will bring down high blood pressure – and the only side effect is reduced risk of almost every other western disease as well!
DIETARY CHANGES. To improve your health you really need to eat more
real food.
How can you expect your body to work well if you don’t look after it?
Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, as much as you can raw to get the full benefit of all the nutrients. As one health writer put it, ‘Get the salad habit as if your life depended on it. It does.’
It needn’t be boring – there are so many different ingredients to use in salads. Especially look out for interesting salad dressing recipes – not the bottled stuff from the supermarkets, but home made from good quality ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil and fresh lemon juice.
Switch to wholemeal bread, pasta, rice etc instead of the white stuff. Refined flour has most of the goodness taken out.
Cut down on red meat, fried food, processed ‘junk’ food and sugar.
There seem to be lots of things to give up or cut down on, but I’m only suggesting that you go back to real food, such as all your ancestors ate before chemists got involved with food production.
Taking regular food supplements has been shown to help.
Health writer and journalist Phillip Day said “…studies …exist demonstrating that vitamin C, coenzyme q10, magnesium, and the amino acid arginine are able to lower blood pressure very effectively without the attendant side-effects of prescription medications. Vitamin C also increases the production of prostacyclin, a small molecule hormone that relaxes blood vessel walls and also keeps the blood viscosity at optimum levels.”
Vitamin C is the most important supplement for a high blood pressure remedy and for all heart disease. Studies have shown that vitamin C supplements alone can reduce the risk of heart disease by 50%. When you add vitamins A and E, the risk goes down even further.
INCREASE EXERCISE. If you want to live longer, you’ve got to exercise. Your body is designed to move. Lots of studies have shown that regular exercise helps to reduce high blood pressure, and improves your chances of avoiding other diseases.
Start slowly and carefully, but get out there and walk, run, cycle, dance – get your heart fit for life.
LIFESTYLE CHANGES. As well as improving your diet and exercising more,
· Avoid/reduce alcohol, caffeine and tobacco – all linked to high blood pressure and other ills.
· Eat small regular meals rather than one or two large ones a day. This will help control your blood sugar level.
· Drink lots of water. This is VERY important – according to some authorities, drinking enough water is a high blood pressure remedy on its own.
· Reduce stress in your life. Does your job really matter more than your life? I’m not saying you should quit, but do you really need to put so much emotional energy into it?
· Get lots of rest. A good night’s sleep gives your body a chance to do a bit of essential maintenance.
· Avoid sugar AND artificial sweeteners. It’s just a question of habit – train your taste buds to expect less sweetness. Use natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup and fruit juices.
As part of natural health medicine these three steps together are a safe high blood pressure remedy. Many scientific studies have been published proving their effectiveness.
