Looking for Natural Cold Remedies?

Feeling miserable? These natural cold remedies could help you to feel better very soon. It’s horrid having a cold, isn’t it? - bunged up nose - sore throat - heavy, stuffed up head. So wrap up warm, get plenty of rest, and give these remedies a try.

You will find several natural cold remedies, and you can share remedies of your own.

Eucalyptus oil, oil of wintergreen, or a combination such as Olbas oil will clear your nose and sinuses so that you can breathe freely, and sleep at night. Use them in an infuser; put a few drops on a handkerchief or tissue; Olbas oil can be used directly on your clothes or pillow without staining. (Use less for small children; place the oil further from their heads.)

Looking For Natural Cold Remedies

A bad cough can be a nuisance in the day and keep you awake at night. There are some excellent herbal cough mixtures, which will give you natural relief. My favourite is Allen’s Pine and Honey Balsam. This is a great common cold remedy. If you can’t get this one, I’m sure your local health store has something equally good. Alternatively, a teaspoon of honey works just as well as many cough medicines. (Use organic honey if you can.)

For a sore throat, you can’t beat the traditional lemon and honey in warm water – squeeze a few drops of lemon juice into a glass, add warm water and a spoonful of honey. This is one of the best natural cold remedies. You can add a ¼ teaspoon of dried ginger or cayenne pepper for extra warmth.

If your throat is really bad, one of the quickest ways to get relief is to gargle with salt water. This will kill off some of the germs in your throat and ease the soreness straight away.

Another traditional remedy is a mustard footbath; pour 1½ pints of boiling water over 1 tablespoon of mustard seeds. Leave it till it’s cool enough to put your feet in. Sit with your feet in the hot water for 10 minutes so. (Be sure to dry your feet carefully and wrap them up warmly afterwards.)

Honey and Lemon is One of the Natural Cure Remedies

Keep up your fluid intake – lots of warm drinks: lemon and honey drink, herb teas or just warm water, maybe with a little fruit juice to flavour it.

High dose vitamin C will help you avoid a cold, and shorten it if you do get one. Take 2 grams or more a day. Make sure it’s vitamin C with bioflavanoids. For children, you can get chewable vitamin C. (Don’t use the fizzy, soluble kind – the sugar in them counteracts the vitamin C.)

Try to eat less than normal - the less you eat, the sooner you’ll feel better.
