Make the most of your looks by improving your health, not compromising it.
To be beautiful it is not necessary to coat your skin with toxic chemicals, or starve yourself till you look like a Barbie doll (ugh, scary!).
Keep slim by eating a
sensible diet
and exercising regularly. Regular exercise will improve muscle tone and reduce unwanted flab. Good muscle tone makes you look trimmer. And if you are fitter, you will automatically look and feel more vibrant and alive.
Skin, hair and nails need to be fed to stay healthy. Eat a well-balanced diet with lots of fruit, vegetables and wholegrains to be sure of getting all the nutrients you need for strong nails and hair, and healthy, clear skin.
We all want to smell nice, but be careful what you put on your skin. Just as your skin can eliminate toxins, it can also absorb them. It takes about 20 minutes for a substance placed on your skin to reach your internal organs. Deodorants, soaps and shampoos are often loaded with nasties. (The dramatic increase in the incidence of breast cancer, in men as well as women, has been linked to the use of underarm deodorants!)

This doesn’t mean we all have to go round with pegs on our noses – there are products made from natural ingredients. Good health food shops sell natural soaps, and deodorants, shampoos and conditioners made from natural ingredients. Simply changing to natural cleaning products can improve the condition of your skin and hair. For those with sensitive skin, choosing natural products is even more important. Find out more about
sensitive skin care.
It’s part of the modern fashion to use makeup to emphasise your features and make the most of your face. In the days of Elizabeth the First it was fashionable for ladies to whiten their faces with a powder based on lead. We wouldn’t dream of using anything so poisonous now – or would we? Are the powders and creams you put on your face really safe? Look at the ranges available in health food shops for some safer alternatives.
Remember, beauty is not just a matter of how others see you; it’s how you see yourself as well. If you feel good about yourself, comfortable with your looks, other people will respond to that. With natural health beauty that is already in you will show.
