What Are The Ways Of Treating The Flu Naturally?
Fever, chills, dry cough, sore throat, blocked or runny nose, aching all over. Treating the flu for many of us is an urgent matter.
Left to itself, flu lasts about a week - 3 to 10 days according to my medical books.
You can take medicines like Tamiflu – but is it worth it? The possible side effects include nausea, dizziness, vomiting, hallucinations, depression and suicidal feelings – and at best, it reduces the symptoms by 36 hours – just a day and a half. Some people suffer the side effects without any reduction in their symptoms.
Natural treatments are far more effective, helping you recover quickly and not just covering up the symptoms.
Much of treating the flu is the same as for a cold:
- A blocked or runny nose will clear quickly with essential oils such as eucalyptus
.
- Lemon and honey drinks really sooth a sore throat.
- Honey is also good for coughs.
- For the aches and chills, keep warm. Ideally stay in a warm bed, though a hot lavender bath can be helpful.
- A hot water bottle is one of the simplest and best remedies to keep you warm and sooth the aches.
- Herb teas are good – chamomile relaxes your aching muscles, peppermint is good for nausea and headaches, echinacea boosts your immune system.
- Clear
onion soup
is one of the best remedies for many illnesses. Onion supports the immune system, and the warm liquid is soothing and keeps you hydrated.
It’s important to have lots of liquid to stay hydrated- warm water, herb teas, diluted fruit juice, lemon and honey in hot water.
Don’t make the mistake of eating ‘to keep your strength up’ – it won’t work. Your body is working hard to deal with the flu virus, don’t waste energy on digestion. Keep to simple, easily digested foods – thin soups or stewed fruit are both good.
The less you eat the sooner you’ll be well – that’s why it’s called fasting – it’s the fast way to get well!
Finally, vitamins helps you fight off any illness, particularly high dose vitamin C and vitamin D.
Treat the flu naturally with warmth, rest and light food you’ll soon be well.
